Please join us for our final dissemination conference “Towards Regaining Vision and Functioning in Advanced Glaucoma”, on October 14th, 2026, in Florence, IT. We are organising this conference as a satellite event to the European association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER) congress, also in Florence from October 15 – 17, 2026.

Dissemination Conference “Towards Regaining Vision and Functioning in Advanced Glaucoma”

Glaucoma is the leading age-related neurodegenerative eye disease in Western society and one of the four major causes of blindness. Across the EU, roughly 6 million people live with glaucoma, most of them aged 55 or older. Although early detection and prompt treatment can prevent vision loss, an estimated 15% of EU glaucoma patients still go blind in both eyes, affecting around 1 million people.

The Doctoral Network EGRET-AAA specifically focused on patients with advanced glaucoma who are already severely visually impaired or blind. The doctoral candidates’ research centered around advances in neuroprotection and regenerative medicine, ultimately aiming to preserve remaining vision or restore partial sight. Alongside this, researchers tracked changes in eye structure (via OCT and MRI), visual function (via perimetry and fMRI), and retinal blood vessels (via OCTA and related methods) in patients with the disease, since these measures serve as important biomarkers for detecting disease progression and evaluating whether neuroprotective and regenerative therapies are having their intended effect. At this conference, our speakers will present the consortium’s progress in neuroprotection and regenerative medicine, along with insights into the structural, functional, and vascular integrity of the glaucomatous eye and visual pathway. Conference speakers will be the network’s PIs and a to-be-announced keynote speaker. The network’s doctoral candidates will present their best and favorite work on posters.

Attendance can be in person or virtually (meeting location or link to be distributed later to registered attendees). In-person participation is free but limited, so please register using this form register using this form by September 15th, 2026. Please also register if you plan to attend virtually (deadline October 13th, 2026)!
