Guten tag from the 5th EGRET-AAA workshop in Oldenburg

| As we have crossed the 3rd and final year of the EGRET-AAA training program, we look back on the scientific highlights of the 5th EGRET-AAA workshop which took place on 29 September – 2 October 2025 in Oldenburg, Germany! This city is home to our DC Hassan and the Oldenburg team prepared a highly stimulating program of top scientific quality. In this workshop we gave long format presentations and had a poster session which triggered a lot of great discussions. We also enjoyed some great food and bonded during an Escape Room experience. Monday 29/09/2025
Every DC was looking forward to this moment: the oral presentations. As we had made a lot of progress over the last few months, the DCs had the opportunity to give a 20 minute oral presentation each. This resulted in an amazing opportunity to dive deeply into every project and allow for thorough discussions.

Tuesday 30/09/2025
And the science didn’t stop on the first day. We continued the oral presentations and finished the day off with a poster session where each DC could present their plans for the upcoming six months. A lot of big plans coming up!

Wednesday 01/10/2025
On Wednesday, we had our research course that talked about genetics in ophthalmology, personalized medicine, and the complexity of retinal ganglion cells. After all of this scientific work, we could also find time to have fun and try to beat an escape room! Judging our escape times, we can conclude that scientists could definitely work on their communication skills 😁

A PhD is not only about academia. Translating our work into the industry is also extremely important. Therefore, we participated in a 6 hour workshop on business and start-ups by Nadine Schmieder-Galfe. Then it was time to wave goodbye again. See you all in our final workshop in Paris!
