Mechanisms of Retinal ganglion cells / glial cells uncoupling by glaucoma associated stress and their association with neuronal cell death

I have joined the “retinal inflammation” team as a PhD candidate at Institut de la vision (IdV), Paris, France with the guidance of Dr. Xavier Guillonneau as my supervisor. I will join the department of molecular pharmacology at the University of Groningen (RUG) as my secondment in the first year of my PhD with the guidance of Prof. Dr. Amalia Dolga as my co-supervisor.

Personal Background and Interest

I have graduated in 2023 with an integrated BS-MS degree from the Indian institute of science education and research (IISER), Mohali, India. My master’s project was based on brain development and viral trafficking, the first part of which was done at stem cell and brain research institute (SBRI), Lyon, France. I am interested in exploring the different neurodegenerative pathways that cause various diseases. I am driven to work against the challenging neurodegenerative diseases like glaucoma and learn cutting-edge technologies to introduce therapeutics.

Aim of the project

My aim is to develop new methods to offer neuroprotection to ganglion cells (RGCs) by preventing lipid dependent RGC ferroptosis and retinal inflammation.

Current activities/Accomplishments

I am currently organizing EGRET AAA seminars with fellow EGRET 3A PhD student Federica Cardillo.
